I took Nathan to travel town on Thursday and he was absolutely entranced with the model train set. Yesterday, Gary was kind enough to buy him one of his own. Now he is completely obsessed. He play with it from the moment they opened the box at 11am yesterday and is still fixated on it today. We have to pry him away for meals and bedtime. Of course the train does not leave his hand while he does step away to eat or sleep.

If you look closely you might see a chicken pock.
I've spent a couple days at home with Nathan while his chicken pox is still active. It has reinforced my feeling that my job at Kaiser is easier than staying home with a toddler. I must have a nice relaxing job, because Nathan isn't particularly hard to take care of. Nathan of course is feeling fine, no itching, no fever, no pain. But they won't let him back to school until the pox are gone. Which is silly when you think about it because he was contagious the couple days before the spots showed up and he probably caught it from some other kid at school. Oh well.
More news. My grandfather, my mother's father, Nathan "George" Anton, passed away early Saturday morning. He died in his sleep in his own bed at the age of 91, and less than a year after the death of his wife Eileen. Although I'm sad he's gone, I really can't be too sad. He lived a long good life and died, one could argue, in the best possible way. The funeral will be at Hillside in Culver City, but not for a few weeks since one of my cousins is backpacking for another week.
Also, Nathan has an "atypical" case of chicken pox. He had his first vaccine for it about three months ago, but he hasn't had the second in the series. Thursday I noticed a few red spots, but didn't think much of it. By Saturday morning he had over a dozen. They don't seem to bother him or itch, and he acts perfectly healthy. The pediatrician said this can happen if a kid gets the virus after getting the first shot- a mild, but still contagious case.
Well, its official and public now. Gary and I are expecting number two. I'm due Dec 2 2008. I'm feeling pretty good. Mostly I've just been more tired than usual and experienced some food aversions. We're excited and happy that Nathan will be big brother before long.
I had a lovely mother's day weekend. Nathan spent the night at his grandparents again on OC so I got tons of time to myself. I went to see the new Star Trek movie with my mom, which we all really enjoyed. It was fun film and nice to see new life breathed into the franchise. I also got to play my new computer game - Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Although the game was made three years ago, I love the open-ended, well written RPG fantasy story.
I was getting anxious about sending Nathan to his new school, but he did great yesterday. He didn't cry when I left and didn't want to leave when I came to pick him up. Unfortunately, back at his old school today, he cried alot when I dropped him off.
Since my car needed some repairs and my work schedule was light, I took the day off. I was so nice to stay home, watch my favorite movies and play on the computer. It seems the time I have to myself is so rare.
