We had a nice Thanksgiving. For the first time in recent memory, instead of going to Fullerton to see my aunt's family, they joined our family at my parent's house. The meal was somewhat chaotic, but Nathan had a good time. it was fun to do our traditional post-meal walk and round of games.
Saturday, Gary and I dropped Nathan off at his grandparent's place in Irvine and we got to go on a date. Fun! We ate lunch at Veggie Grill at the spectrum and then we watched the new movie "Australia." I really liked the movie. I am fan of Baz Luhrman's other films and I loved Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. Oh yeah, and Hugh Jackman is super sexy! The film had a nice balance of action, romance, politics, and story telling.
Nathan likes to kick, run, and play in the leaves.
Last night we had a nice time hanging out with friends, but getting to and from the cafe was a strange experience. We got lost on the way to the Downtown Long Beach and the Zepyr cafe. First we went over a bridge and then ended up at the Queen Mary. We finally looked at a map and figured things out and got to the cafe fine. The vegetarian food at the restaurant was okay, the service was poor, but it was nice to see our buddies.
On the way back home, I got a bit turned around and wound up going through a police sobriety get point! They let the two cars in front of me pass through with no inspection, but then the cop signaled for me to pull over. Me, the average looking woman in her 30's, with a husband and toddler in the car. Then, when I said my drivers license was in my purse which was in the trunk, I had to pull into a second lot for license verification. Oy! I was worried the experience was going to freak Nathan out. Flashing signs, cones, cops shining flash lights at us. In the end a cop just looked at my license carefully and then said I could go. I didn't even have to take an alcohol test or anything. Thankfully, Nathan just stayed quiet and watchful, but it was a strange experience.
Goodness, who says it gets this warm in November? I'd thought we'd retired the water table for the season, but today I set it back up so Nathan could splash around. Aslo, getting descent photos of Nathan is getting harder. It is difficult to catch him being still long enough to take a picture and him not grab the camera.
Nathan loves books, and new books are the best kind of books. Which is why we frequent the library. I mostly get audiobooks for myself. Unfortunately, yesterday the library started fining me for a book I had returned. Thankfully it was easy to call and talk to a real person who said I will not be penalized while they look for it.
Also, Nathan now requests what he wants in his meals by name. He will go tug on the fridge handle and say "applesauce" or "peanut butter" or "yogurt" or "fruit!" (of course all of these are in Nathanese). If he does not get what he is asking for, a tantrum ensues.
I have mixed feelings about the election results. Of course I am thrilled that Obama won and with a commanding lead. On the other hand, I am very sad and disappointed that Prop 8 passed. If this state can see past race and elect a Black man president, why can't it see past homophobia? I wish I could just be happy about the presidential race, but I can't stop thinking about Prop 8. I just hope the democrats do blow it.
Nathan was spiderman for Halloween. He knew there was a spider, or rather a "pider," on his shirt and seemed to enjoy it. However, he did not like trick-or-treating. After visiting two houses, one of which was our next door neighbor who he knows well, he was crying. I guess it was just confusing and somewhat scary. So we shifted gears and just walked the two blocks to my parents house and hung out with them for a while. Although we did not let him eat any candy, he had fun putting them in his pumpkin.
