I've been putting alot of time and effort into DMing dungeons and dragons. The online game has been going really well, and the pace has been brisk. But it does keep me very busy.
Last night was Back to School night. Since Nathan has graduated out of the infant room, we got to meet his new teacher. It was nice to hear how he's doing and I remined her that Nathan is vegetarian. I also learned that his class is mixed with early intervention kids, that is children with or at risk for developmental delay. That is one of the things I really like about his current preschool, the diversity of the students, in all respects.
I've been at the National Society of Genetic Counselor's annual conference since Thursday. Luckily it's being held in LA this year and I just drive to the conference hotel each day. It hasn't been that exciting so far, but it gets me out of the office.
We had a pretty ho-hum kind of weekend. Just hanging out at home. Saturday evening we watched Ironman, which I quite enjoyed.
One new thing I learned about Nathan this weekend - he can count. Well, kind of. We were at the park Saturday morning on the swings. With each push he says "one... two, thee" At three, or more like "tree" I realized he was counting. I joined him and although he skipped five and eight, he went up to ten. Then, to my greater suprise he started "uno, dos ..." Also, his favorite number in spanish is definitely ocho; he said ocho for all the numbers between five and nine.

Taking a break on our walk to LMU.
Yesterday morning Nathan was honored at his school for being "Student of the Month." He earned this prestigious award for knowing several colors and shapes, and participating well in circle time. He is also starting in the more advanced class with the 2 year-olds this week.
Of course he had no clue what was happening or what student of the month meant. At first he was confused and then really excited when no less than six of his family members show up at his school assembly to applaud him. Then he got very sad when we all had to leave.
The weekend went well. Saturday moring I had all to myself. I mostly spent the time cleaning our house for book club that afternoon. Sunday afternoon we had a poker party in honor of Gary's birthday. Nathan is getting good at kicking a ball and he can get very chatty in a babbling sort of way.
I mailed by absentee ballot today. I have to say the glut of California's ballot initiatives is depressing. I would guess it has more to do with the state budget problems than anything else. Stupid initiative system.
We had a nice weekend. Nathan and I did the usual walk to the park to visit the playground, library and bowling alley on Saturday. Sunday we had dinner with Mike, Phaedra and Katie. It is cute how Nathan is now learning their and other friends' names. We also had a short visit with Grandpa George at my parent's house.
I'm doing my best to not even look at my retirement and mutual fund savings. Thank goodness I won't be retiring anytime soon.
Also, I am getting excited about playing D&D again. We have a solid group lined up to play online. It should be fun.
