If you are coming to Mike's party, feel free to pull me aside and get your fortune told.
It never ceases to amaze me how much people really dig fortune telling mumbo-jumbo. I mean, in this day and age you would think folks would not be so superstitious. But alot of people, especially women, really get into the whole reading the future stuff.
I was also thinking how much genetic counseling is actually like fortune telling. What else would you call asking about a person's history and then predicting there chance of having health problems. Sure sounds like a form of fortune telling to me. Maybe that's why I like my job - I get to predict my client's future, but for real.
Although I have always been a cat lover, now that I actually live with a cat again I find these very amusing.
Other than a nice dinner party Saturday evening with Gary, my brother Ari, his best friend Jonathan, and Jonathan's fiance, I spent most of this weekend stressing about yardwork.
This sunday we spent most of the day working on the yard. We put in a dozen golden bamboo along our back fence to add some privacy to the yard. For some color, we also put in a few cana lillies in the back and a bougainvillea in the front. Gary also tried in vain with two different lawn mowers to cut the grass. It was alot of work and very frustrating (especially the lawn mower problems), but I feel better getting it done. It definitely give the yard some character. I just hope all the plants do well and don't require too much more work.
While Gary was out of town for work I got in some "me" time. Sunday I ran the Long Beach half marathon; it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The website has this cool analysis of how I placed in the race and I found a couple pictures (but wasn't able to upload them). After the race I watched about 7 hours of TV (including the CSI I requested from netflix). I joing my parents for a wonderful sushi dinner at Todai.
Although the weekend was fun, the work I've been putting off because of High Holy Day planning is catching up with me. I have a ton of cases to catch up on. I also have to keep a closer eye on my clerk - I found out today she basically hasn't done anywork since September.
I also have been suffering from "multiple events scheduled at the same time" syndrome. I think I planned two things at the same time on 10/8, two different meetings to attend on my lunch break 10/19, four different things to do on 11/6, and two different thinks on 11/13. I am getting way too scatter brained.
My email is a crucial part of my life. I get about 20-30 non-work emails a day (although I expect that will slow down after High Holy Days are over). I hate to switch the email I've been using for years, but I am getting fed up with my current personal email at wildmail. It is so unreliable and full of ads. After hundreds of bounced emails, several hours of frozen service, and way too many advertisements, I have finally decided I need to drop my wildmail account, but I'm not sure who to switch to.
I already have a juno.com and yahoo.com email accounts and they seem to be much more reliable than wildmail. Yahoo has a larger storage capacity, but both Juno and Yahoo send me their own internal spam. I mean, what is the point of having a spam blocker, when your own email provider sends you sanctioned spam that you have to take? I also just signed up for a gmail account at google. It seems better organized and has alot of storage space. I don't know how the spam is though.
My mom also suggested I use a paid account, like through our home internet provider. She also has access to a couple charter email accounts. But I am hesitant to go with a paid account, becuase if you switch providers down the road, you'll have to drop your email.
Any thoughts or advice on switching to a better email provider?
This weekend will be the first time we have guests over to our new house for Gary's birthday party. Of course things are not as ready as we would like (will it ever?). We still haven't gotten our new sofa, installed internet service, or planted anything in the yard. But it will be nice to have friends over even if the house isn't as polished as it could be. If we waited until things were perfect, we'd never have any guests.
We do however have my parent's cat, Moo. My mom felt that they wouldn't be home enough to take care of him, what with my dad spending most weeknights with us and her galavanting around the country selling her book. Moo is doing okay - he has been eating and using the litter box. As far as I can tell the cat hasn't had any accidents or ruined any furniture. He is still very skiddish and hides in our closet most of the time. Hopefully he'll get adjusted and comfortable soon.
I actually kind of sympathize with Moo. I still feel akward in our new place and wouldn't mind hiding under some furniture sometimes. But home is where your family is, and that's in Westchester, so that's where I'll be.
