I had a very nice Thanksgiving week. It actually started last weekend when my cousin Mallory came down to visit from Sacramento. Gary and I really got to know her and my Aunt Nancy's family during our stay in Sactown and I miss them. She also brought us our very favorite pizza in the whole world - Zelda's deap dish spinocoli. It was great to have her spend a few days with us. We played computer games, went to see movies, and generally enjoyed her company (and her pizza).
We also drove up to Santa Barbara on Tuesday to visit my Grandpa George and his wife Eileen. He is such a character. Seeing him for a day every now and then is about all anyone can take. But I treasure him; he is my only grandparent left. We had a lovely walk on the beach and a nice dinner.
Then for Thanksgiving I got to visit with my father's side of the family. Aunt Betsy prepared an amazing thanksgiving feast - as always. She even was good enough to make Gary his very own "tofurkey" with vegitarian gravy and dumplings. Of course I prefered the real stuff - yummy. Besides a good feed, it was nice to see my aunt and uncle and cousins.
Finally this weekend was my brother's 24th birthday and my parents' 34th anniversary. we went out to see a silly French farce A Flea in her Ear and a nice dinner. I mostly talked computer game stuff with him. Busy holiday season, but I love seeing these people.
Sorry to have been away from my blog for a while now. Both my computer at work and at home went into comas. My work computer died and was replaced with a nicer one and my home computer was revived, but just isn't the same. I am seriously contemplating getting a new PC, although I feel some guilt in ditching my Macintosh.
Also, since Gary informed me that the entry on genetic counseling on Wikipedia was seriously deficient, I have been spending a bit of time updating that, and many other genetics entries. I didn't know it before, but apparently anyone can edit an entry on their encyclopedia. I have edited over 25 entries on various genetic conditions. If you happend to have some expertise on a certain subject, take a look and see if you can contribute.
A genetic counselor friend of mine sent this. Occasionally I get someone like this at work.
For the last week I've been building up a cold. Now I've got the runny nose, cough, congestion, etc. What a lovely virus. But I am not so much of an exercise addict that I don't know when to take it easy. Sunday I only ran 4 miles, half of what I was planning. Yesterday and today I will not work out -at all! See - I have some restraint.
I have this problem with getting rid of obsolete or old stuff that still works. Like my car, a 1990 accord which runs fine - most of the time. I would feel terrible getting rid of it since it works okay, but it is not shinny and new anymore.
Also, I have this delima with my computer. I was getting excited about this great new computer game, World of Warcraft. But I realized my G4 mac, which I bought in 2001, isn't fast enough for the new game. My computer works fine; I'd feel bad tossing it. Also, a new computer is expensive.
Usually, I have no problem throwing stuff away. I don't have sentimental attachements to old toys, homework, clothes, ticket stubs, etc. I am not a pack rat. I think I have a tought time with the functionality aspect. Why get rid of something that is not broken? It seems like such a waste. I'm not sure what to do.
I'm rather disappointed in the election results. I had actually thought that Bush was the likely winner, but the realization made me sad. Also expected, but still depressing was the overwhelming passage of anti-gay marriage initiative across the country, many also banning same-sex unions and partner benifits. What a bummer. Where is this country going?
