Tonight begins a High Holiday to celebrate the Jewish new year, Rosh Hashanah. It is a time to think about the past 12 months and reflect on how you can be a better person in the coming year. Many Jews feel it is one of the most important holidays of the year and that it is important to attend services. Some symbols of the holiday are apples and honey (for a sweet new year) and the shofar (a ram's horn blown during temple services). Rosh Hashanah is a positive, joyous holiday, in contrast to Yom Kippur, the other High Holiday, with fasting and repentence, which comes in ten days.

Gary and I spent last weekend in Reno with his parent. We drove up Friday night at stayed at the Circus Circus. Besides seeing all the glitz, we walked along the Truckee River, saw the National Automobile Museum, and the Nevada Museum of Art. The exhibits were pretty cool. Although I'm not much of a gamble, it was nice to take a little vacation and spend some time with Gary's parents.
This weekend my cousin, Mallory, stayed with Gary and I while her parents installed her sister, Adrienne, at UCSB to start her freshman year. We watched a couple fantasy movies and played board games. Gary took her to target while he bought a giant transformer.
Also, this morning I completed by most difficult triathlon yet. Not only was the Granite Bay Triathlon the longest race I've done with a .75 mile swim, 16 mile bike, and 5 mile run (about 3/4 an olympic length tri), but it was also the most strenuous. The course was very hilly, with a lot of tight turns on the bike. It was also very hot, above 90 degrees. I finished in 2 hours and 24 minutes.
Athlough it took alot out of me, overall, I feel I did well. Mostly I am pleased with the amount of progress I've made this season. I'm feeling a bit burnt out at this point. Now I plan to recoup over winter and recharge for next season.

Gary and I spent the weekend in Ashland for the Oregon Shakespear festival. We were there a couple years ago and just loved it. The town is hippie, yet quaint. We enjoyed eating at several veggitarian friendly, organic, health food restaurants. My favorite play was A Midsummer Night's Dream performed under the stars in the Elizabethan theater, a replica of a Shakespear era playhouse. I had such a nice time; it was good to get away and spend time with Gary.
