Irene visit

I sure wish I had a digital camera. This weekend, when Gary and I went to visit my dear friend Irene, I realized my camera sucks. After the poor waiter tried unsucessfully to take our picture at the vegetarian Indian restaurant, I realized the camera had already rewound accidentally. This is like the third time I have lost almost a complete role of film to this touchy camera. What's worse, is that since I don't take pictures all that often, it takes months to finish a role and be able enjoy the photos I took. Yah, it'd be nice to have a digital camera.

Harry Potter

Although I recieved the lastest Harry Potter book, The Order of the Phoenix, in the mail Saturday, I'm not going to read it until I finish the book I'm already reading. Unfortunately, the Mists of Avalon is longer than OotP. I also promised Gary I'd read one of the books we've been assigned by the Rabbi for our engagment. In addition, I thought about rereading #4 to reorient myself to Potter's world, but my Dad said JK recaps things enough. So it'll be awhile before I get to read it.

Tarot reading

wheelfortune.gif

Last night I hosted a fortune telling party. It was a lot of fun. Although I am quite the skeptic, I am somewhat versed in palm reading and tarot cards. I was really into divination in high school. My best friend, Irene, and I were very interested in predicting our love lives. I guess I grew out of it. But some folks really love that stuff; a few of my girlfriends swallowed my fortunes whole. I always caution - believe at your own risk.

Mama Mia

MammaMia.jpg

Last night Gary and I saw Mama Mia, a new musical composed solely of ABBA songs. The show was really fun. Of course the music was great, but the way the songs were integrated into the plot wasn't any more contrived than any other musical. A very entertaining show.

Friday the 13th

Why is Friday the 13th unlucky? There are several theories.

1)On Friday, October 13, 1307. On that day, the Pope and the King of France, sentenced the "the Knights Templar" to death and ordered the torture and crucifixion of their leader.

2) The origin of 13 as the "Devil's Dozen." is that at the Last Supper. 'And in the evening he cometh with the twelve. And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.' (Mark 14: 17-18). 'Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?(John 6: 70-71).

3)Chaucer wrote 'And on a Friday fil al this meschaunce,' a lamentable intersection of unlucky number and dire day.

4)Poor old Friday is attributed to many disasters that have ever befallen Mankind On Friday Eve's "indiscretion," the murder of Abel, the stoning of Stephen, the Crucifixion, the Massacre of the Innocents by Herod, the flight of the children of Israel through the Red Sea, the Confusion of Tongues at the Tower of Babel and many others, right up to William Tell and the other Apple - all supposedly occure on Friday.

There are even more theories on why today is especially unlucky.

Triathlon

Today I completed my second half triathlon at Rancho Seco park. Although I had to get up before 6 to get there in time for the 8 am start, I had a good race. I don't know my exact time yet, I think I took about 1:59. Results should be posted soon.

I tell you, some people can spend alot of money on triathlon gear. You know, $300 for a wet suit, $100 on the triathlon suit, $2000 for a nice bike, $100 bike shoes, $50 bike helmet, $100, running shoes, and more on sports drinks, power bars, and goo. I don't go in for all of that stuff, but I'd love to get a nice racing bike. It'd probably shave 20 to 30 minutes off my time.

Homestarrunner

My brother, Ari, showed me homestarrunner.com. If you've never seen it, check this out. It's full of clever and amusing cartoons. My favorite are the DVD features and Strong Bad's email.

Engagment Party

This weekend Gary and I went down to Glendale to celebrate with our family and friends at our engagement party. (I would guess if you are reading this, most likely you were there too). I had a great time. I was good to hang out with many people who I hadn't seen in a long time. The music by Evyn Charles was great; Gary and I even got in a bit of dancing. Thank you to all who came and helped us celebrate. If you took any photos of the event, please email them to me.
