I read the second novel in eunuch detective series "The Snake Stone" by Jason Goodwin. Set in 19th-century Istanbul, Yashim again weaves his way in and out of harems, guilds, sewers, and danger to solve a murder. The pacing is very quick, and sometimes the plot is hard to follow. I give it a 5 out of 10.

I read Angle of Repose a pulitzer prize winner by Wallace Stegner. It is the story of a retired, disabled divorced historian now reclusively researching and writing the biography of his grandmother. It is two stories in one, mostly focusing on the life in the untamed west around the turn of the century. It was very slow and I had a hard time identifying with any of the main characters. I rate it a 3 out of 10.
