Line of Beauty

I was disappointed by the winner of the 2004 Mann Booker prize, The Line of Beauty by Allan Hollingsworth. We follow a recent British gay university grad as he spends four years lodging with his friend's rich, conservative, affluent family. The story drifts along as the main character gets one foot into 80's gay life and the other into British upcrust society. The writing is artsy and there is quiet a bit of gay sex, but doesn't make up for lack of plot. I give it a 4 out of 10.
