Alvin Maker

The Alvin Maker series is now one of my favorite works of fiction, and it solidified
Orson Scott Card 's place as my favorite living author. This fantasy series follows the life of Alvin, the seventh son of a seventh son, during early America. The characters have depth, the story is well paced, the magic is fascinating, and the setting isn't exactly historically accurate, but intriguing. The only thing that is missing so far (I've only finished the first three books in the series) is a decent romance. I give it a 9 out of 10.

Prayer for Owen Meany

A
Prayer for Owen Meany was recommended to my by a coworker in my book gorup. I found it to be rambling, detailed and slow like most of John Irving's other books. The story of the extraordinary boy Owen Meany is told through the eyes of his best friend and biggest fan. Even though I usually like fantasy, for a book with such a normal and boring setting , then end is too fanciful. I give it a 2 out of 10.
