Angels and Demons

While on my honeymoon in Europe I read the prequel to DaVinvi Code - Dan Brown's Angels and Demons. I knew it stared the same main character as DaVinici, which I had really enjoyed. But I did not expect the two stories to be so similar. The book could have been called "Galileo's Code." The details are different, but the plot points, love interest, and bad guys are way too similar to DaVinici. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book alot. It is fast paced, well written, interesting and educational. I guess when you have a formula that sells millions - why change? A 7 out of 10.

Amber Spyglass

Although the first book in the series had great promise, the second was okay, and the third, Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman did not live up to my expectations. The author nevers satisfactorily explains the complex ideas in the fantasitcal universe. The characters' motivations stop making sense. He fails to resolve some of the plot points. It was terribly disappointing. On a scale of 1 to 10, a 3.
